    So I’m going to talk about my uncle. He’s my mum’s brother and we are quite close so I see him quite a lot. So that’s obviously how I know him.

    My uncle has been in the restaurant business for many years and I think most people would agree that he is quite successful – he has run quite a lot of different restaurants over the years.

    I think the secret to his success is his interesting ideas. He always comes up with very original concepts in his restaurants – not just for the menu – but for the theme – the décor and even the way that the food is served – he is always quite innovative and of course his restaurants attract a lot of customers.

    I can give you an example – he opened a restaurant called the ‘beehive’ and the theme was of course honey bees and a lot of the dishes contained honey. But he didn’t stop there – he also soldjars of natural honey in the restaurant.

    I think his ideas are interesting because he’s always willing to try something new and his instinctsare usually right.

    加分词汇: the décor, innovative, obviously, instincts(直觉)地道表达: quite close, I can give you an example, of course加分短语:come up with..., willing to, jars of...

    Actually, about two years ago I was travelling to Hong Kong with my friend and we were due totake a morning flight around 10 o' clock or something like that. Anyway we were all packed andready to go (and of course we were quite excited as you can imagine – because we were travelling without our parents), when we arrived at the airport we couldn’t find our flight anywhere on the departures screen, so we double checked and still couldn’t find it anywhere, in the end we went to the information desk and they told us that our flight had been changed to 8am (we’d already missed it).

    As you can guess we were at first quite shocked and then pretty angry. The airline claimed that they had sent out messages informing all passengers of the time change – but we hadn’t received any notification. In the end we got the hold of the duty manager and luckily he was quitesympathetic, we were put on a later flight for no extra charge so everything worked out alright in the end.

    💡分析:事件类的话题要避免流水账式叙述. 关于接收错误信息,重点在于错误信息是什么以及带来的影响和个人感受。注意这里的时态是过去时,所以考生要描述的是过去经历的事件。事件描述本身并不难,考生的难点在于,如何将错误信息描述清楚,在说清楚5W的同时故事不枯燥。日常生活中除了旅行外,雅思口语考试看错时间,迷路遇到路人指错路等都是可以拓展话题的方向。

    加分词汇: packed, shocked, sympathetic (有同情心), luckily, pretty地道表达:something like that...as you can imagine, as you can guess,加分短语: due to..., ready to go, double check, get the hold of..., work out, put on a later flight

    3A historical building you visited  where it was;

    what it was used for when you visited it;

    and explain what you learnt there. 话题难度:🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

    类别:buildingChina has a fairly rich historic background. So of course there are many old buildings worth checking out but the one I visited recently is quite special. It’s the Leshan Giant Buddha, in Sichuan province. It’s not as famous or as popular as the main tourist attractions in China (such as the Great Wall and so on) but this colossal monument was built in ancient times and it’s quiteimpressive. It’s a huge structure carved into the stone cliffs. It’s over 250 meters tall and something like 100 meters wide. I remember reading that construction of the monument began early in the 8th century and it took almost a hundred years to reach completion. It doesn’t really serve any function nowadays – other than a tourist attraction - it is the largest and tallest stone Buddha statue in the world - The site attracts millions of people every year, including Buddhist pilgrims, making it something of a sacred destination and an ancient wonder of the world. If you haven’t seen it, I would certainly recommend it if you are ever travelling in Sichuan province – it’sdefinitely worth a day trip.

    💡分析:建筑类的话题一直以来存在感都很高, 难度也不小。如果是针对历史建筑historical building的话,建筑的“风格”“历史”和“功能”是重点,大家在准备此类题目的时候可以从熟悉的地点入手,比如中国的The Forbidden City, The Terracotta Army, Peace Hotel等等。 最好也可以提前准备一些与建筑物相关的一些词语,比如pavilion(亭子), memorial arch (牌坊), plinth(底基)等等。大家可以搜索你感兴趣的建筑物的英文介绍页面,最好是官方的网站,把里面的一些介绍性的,可取的说法借用过来。

    加分词汇: colossal monument(巨大的纪念碑), acncient, impressive, sacred, pilgrim(朝圣的人), serve地道表达: quite (出现的频次很高, 自然表达必备), fairly, certainly, definitely加分短语: carve into..., other than..., worth...,as...as...,worth a trip

    Tips: 尽管当前雅思口语考试的难度逐年加大,但是摸清考题轮换规律,做好相应的素材准备,对于烤鸭们而言,依然还是最有针对性和高效率的应考方法之一。无论如何,好好准备吧~
